Winter Geocaches – Looking for Ideas

photos_miikas_356612123 I love creating geocache’s.   Everything from building the container to finding that ideal spot to hide it (or vice versa…  sometimes you find the spot and then create the container after).  In the area we live, we get A LOT of snow.  Typical cache hiding places become much more difficult.   Difficult because people have to get to them, and difficult because they may be buried in inches to feet of snow.

I’d like to place a couple of winter caches… In particular I want to post a New Year’s cache…  What I am having a hard time with is where or how?

Here are some of the criteria I would like to follow:

1.  It needs to be accessible to the general public (no special equipment needed)

2.  It should be large enough for cachers to trade swag and trackables.

3.  It should be outdoors.

4.  Accessible 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

5.  Low muggle rating…. IE people should be able to retrieve it without having to worry about muggle activity.

I have a couple of them that are accessible in the winter and are far enough off of the beaten path that the trails left in the snow to get to them generally do not cause too much suspicion.   This really can be a problem in a high muggle locale.

If you’ve placed a winter cache or have ideas of a cache that can meet many if not all of the criteria please leave me a comment.
