As many of you know I am an RSS and News Feed junkie… As such you may see me make some posts here that are references to works that I have read that I believe might be of interest to you. This post is one of those.
While surfing through the Mashable website I came across this article on using the iPhone for your geocaching. I like the single device idea. IE… one device for your GPS, your phone, your camera, your notes… everything all in one place. For those of you that are using the iPhone I would be curious about your results.
In this article, the author, Amanda MacArthur does a head to head challenge between the Tom Tom and a couple of applications on the iPhone. She reports back her results both the good and bad. Even without an iPhone I found the article interesting (but then again I am a technology geek) and well the conclusion is what I would have expected but then I won’t spoil it for you.
I would encourage you to check it out. Let us all know your thoughts and experiences with your iPhone.
You can find Amanda’s article here…

I thought the article was a little shallow regarding the iPhone, since there are much better iPhone geocaching apps than GeopherLite and google maps. A difference of 10ft is nothing. Go out caching with a mix of magellans and garmins and you’ll see the same thing. I’ve been caching a bunch with just my iPhone and I find the caches no problem (but I certainly haven’t challenged it in adverse conditions like steep canyons or dense tree cover).
Ahhh… good point on the application choice. What app are you using with your phone? I would have thought the Google app would have been OK. I know that I can go to the same cache on different days and that my DeLorme will have variations.
Certainly results will vary… Does the iPhone GPS work when there is no cell signal present?
