When the weather outside looks like this it is pretty hard to not only hide a cache but the search becomes quite challenging as well.
I was quite happy when I received my email of new caches from geocaching.com that someone had placed a cache in our area AND it was relatively close AND it was winter accessible. I just had to jump on the opportunity to go searching. It could be my New Year’s first.
We loaded up the coordinates into the GPS and headed out. I had a pretty good idea where I thought the cache was located just from the description. We did use the GPS though… didn’t want it to forget how to triangulate our position and with weeks of no use you just never know.
As we headed down the city street the first thought I had was where in the world am I going to park. You see here in Spokane what was once a two lane street with parking on either side has now become a 1 – 1/2 lane street with no parking and snow berms that are 3-4 feet tall in some cases. Fortunately on Jan. 1 most businesses are closed so we had no problem parking in a neighboring business parking lot.
My wife was keying in on the name of the cache…”Munchies” and she stopped and started looking where she thought it would be. I on the other hand with the trusty GPS kept on walking 80 feet, 60 feet, 40 feet… I then get the call back from her… Sure enough she had found it. It was a perfect place for a winter cache. We signed the log and off we went. Our first cache of the year.
Hi Bill. Since we’re using the same WP theme, I thought maybe we could share our theme brainstorming or something like that. If you’re interested, holler back.
P.S. My wife and I have geocached before, too. Not for about 5 years. WOW! Funny thing is, I’ve had travel bugs and a geocaching hat laying around since we last did it. But we moved, and moved again, and been busy with a little one. We are saramarc on the GC site.

Sure… I am not a wp theme expert… Mina has done a great job with Wasteland… Fits right in with my geocaching needs.
How fun! I have never geocached in the snow.
Nice blog!! I’m so glad that you shared it with me, Sonja
We hadn’t either… and the thought of digging through mounds of snow is NOT appealing to me so when I saw a winter accessible cache we just had to do it!
Thanks for the compliment on the blog… share it with your friends.
